American Women Artist Organization

Lilla Orhstrom attended a lunch for American Women’s Art organization and was struck by how underrepresented women artists are in museums, not only historically, but in the contemporary art scene. Literally, the value of women’s art is about 15 cents to the dollar of men's art in the museum and auction house world; shocking in this day and age. Since 1990, AWA has worked to bring women artists to the attention of the art world through museum shows, juried competitions around the country. They also hold symposiums, workshops, and mentorships.

AWA launched 25in25 in 2017 with the goal of hosting 25 museum shows in 25 years and has booked shows through 2020.
