September 26–27, 2015
10 am to 4 pm each day
Large Jars
This class will be a combination of demonstration and hands-on-work. We will be making larger work by throwing sectional pieces on the wheel and then putting them together. This technique will double one’s comfortable scale. We will also be working with adding coils and slabs to easily add to the scale of a jar.
October 24–25, 2015
10 am to 4 pm each day
Plates, Platters and Slip
This workshop will involve both demonstrations and hands-on-throwing. We will work with both thrown objects and press molded slabs. We will explore alternative ways to apply slip for enhancing and varying surfaces. This is a big messy experimental exploration of making shapes and incorporating painting and printmaking ideas.
November 14–15, 2015
10 am to 4 pm each day
Asymmetrical Combined Forms
This will be an exploration of form starting with simple thrown or handbuilt pieces that are then gently altered by clay additions, subtractions and manipulations. This is a search for balance and syncopation within the vocabulary of ceramic structure.
Cost for individual workshop is $220.
Students should bring their own clay and tools to these workshops and expect to transport work home at the end of the weekend.
